Imphal, February 12 2013:
United Naga Council (UNC) has exclaimed that S Jayaraman, Special Secretary (Internal Security), Ministry of Home Affairs, who led the team of Central Government in the tripartite talk held at Senapati head quarters today, has no knowledge about the 'Alternative Arrangement' demand.
Addressing media persons at it office in Senapati today, KS Paul Leo, Chairman of Committee on Alternative Arrangement, stated that since S Jayaraman was never present during any of the previous tripartite talks, he has no knowledge on the demand of 'Alternative Arrangement' of UNC.
He explained that the demand of UNC is to provide an institutional authority for the Nagas under India Government.
Under this authority, Nagas should be provided a separate legislature, judicial, political and financial administration.
He pointed out that the total land area of Manipur is 22,327 sq kms, out of which 20,000 sq kms of land are hills and the remaining 2,238 sq kms are plain areas.
The State Government has divided the plain areas into 40 constituencies and the larger hill areas into just 20 constituencies.
Under such a condition, the Central Government needs to give the demands of the hill people, which is right.
So, the UNC would not go for any further tripartite talks or 'official talks', if the next round of talks is not 'political' in nature and spirit, Leo stated.
"Instead of tripartite talks, the UNC would follow the decision taken by the public which will be final and binding", he added.
