WAD, CAD organise consultation programme

Women Action for Development (WAD) and Centre for Social Development CSD jointly organized a consultation programme on "Gender inequality & its effect in Manipur" at The Giving Tree, Sangaiprou, today.
A press release issued by WAD said that the consultation programme was organized as part of the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence, which is an annual international campaign.
At the programme many resource persons spoke on different topics such as "Rape & domestic violence, pregnancy, trafficking" by Sobita Mangsatabam, secretary WAD; "Scripting of women & its role in school textbooks by social activists Priyadarshini Gangte; Women & gender issues related to drugs by Phamila Tuithung, Project Manager, CSD; Gender biased abortion/Female foeticide in Manipur by Liklai Leima, Journalist; Clinical assessment & intervention to people who encounter gender inequality by Paonam Thoibi, Clinical Psychologist and "The collective trust & role of media for gender inequality by Baby Shirin, Journalist, said the statement.
WAD continued that around 35 people participated in the programme by maintaining social distancing and wearing an orange mask, which symbolizes a brighter future.
As an outcome of the consultation, forming of State gender policy; maintenance of separate gender budget; reviewing all the school textbooks of Manipur where women are portrayed in a degrading way, especially "Nachom" urgently; including gender issues in the syllabus from primary level were recommended to the State Government.
The gathering also urged the State Government to appoint a woman Judge in every district; redress problems of street vendors; install DNA machine; segregate law and order & investigation unit of the Manipur Police Department; speed up compensation to all the pending victims of crime against women and introduce a policy to respond to the prevailing reproductive health situation to improve the standard of living and quality of life of women.
