Imphal, December 11 2013:
At least three cadres of KNF-N were killed while another five wounded in a fierce gun-battle with security forces at NP Khullen village under Sadar Hills in Senapati district in the early hours today.
According to police report, a combined team of 21 Para Troops, 15 Assam Rifles and Thoubal Police Commando personnel was making a rush to the areas like Henjang and Bongbang Khullen villages since December 8 to carry out a massive operation to flush out armed UG cadres following inputs that armed cadres of Kuki National Front-Nehlun had set up a base camp there and that they were freely moving around.

NP Kullen falls under Yairipok Police Station and it is located about 10 km northeast of Nongpok Keithelmanbi in Imphal East district.
The police said that the security personnel who were in alert were attacked by an unspecified number of KNF-N rebels using sophisticated weapons around 6 am today.
Before the attack, the security forces warned them to halt their movement but instead they started firing upon them which prompted the security forces to return the fire.
Three rebels were killed on the spot and another 5 wounded in the exchange of fire.
The other rebels managed to flee under cover of the thickening mist, the police added.
One AK 56 rifle, one M-16, one G-3 rifle and one carbine along with 300 ammos were recovered from the site of the encounter by the security forces after the gunbattle.
The combined security team also raided houses in the area to hunt for suspects.
However, no arrest was made, the police said.
Yairipok Police retrieved the bodies of the slain rebels in the afternoon and sent them to Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS) here for post mortem.
