Imphal, October 11 2019:
Sky Hospital successfully inserted an Intra-Aortic Balloon Pump in a 28 year old man thus saving his life.
Making the announcement before the media today, chief cardiologist of Sky Hospital Dr L Shyamkishore said the device was fitted in the young man as he was suffering from heart failure.
The youth identified as Isak Laldinliasa was admitted to the Sky Hospital with severe heart and respiratory failure on October 5, said the doctor and added that at that time his blood pressure also dropped despite maximum inotropic support at maximum doses and he was put on ventilation to support his respiratory failure.
As the blood pressure dropped to 57/40, with the patient in coma and taking the situation into consideration, the hospital decided to implant/insert Intra-Aortic Balloon Pump to save his life.
After insertion of Intra-Aortic Balloon Pump, the blood pressure of the patient improved within a minute, said Shyamkishore.
He further said that Intra-Aortic Balloon Pump was frequently used during his time at London and announced that the life saving device is now available at Sky Hospital too.
Dr Shyamkishore further said that Intra-Aortic Balloon Pump is used in critical cases when other drugs and supportive therapy fail.
