Chandel, September 10 2014:
Construction of Bailley Bridge without an approach road, retaining wall and a slab culvert, over Chakpi River at Anal Khullen has left the bridge in a poor shape even though the construction work was completed within the stipulated time.
When the construction work started on April 26, 2012 under the Public Works Department No EE/CDL/WO/2012-13/2, there was a glimpse of hope for better road connectivity for Anal Khullen.
Anal Khullen which is one of the oldest villages of the Anal Tribe holds not only the significant history for the Anal community but it is also a place where thousands of Ibudhou Wangbarel worshippers particularly the Meitei communities from Sugnu in Thoubal district used to visit to worship and perform other religious rituals every year.
The already completed 152 ft long bridge was proposed and implemented when K Ranjit Singh was the former Works Minister.
Even though the Bridge was successfully completed within the given time frame, the absence of an approach road has made the Bridge untraversable.
A team of Chandel Naga People's Organization on September 6 visited the site.
Briefing mediapersons in this regard, CNPO President Ws Kanral Anal thanked the department and the contractors concerned for completing the work on time and appealed for inclusion of the work for approach road, retaining wall and slab culvert under the new work programme of SPA 2014-15 .
