Imphal, August 10 2020:
The People Task Force for COVID-19 (PTFC-19) has asked the State Government to place COVID-19 policy that they have formulated to the public domain at the earliest.
A press release issued by Moirangthem Angamba Meitei, publicity & propaganda in-charge of PTFC-19, said that detecting about 70 COVID positive cases with no travel history in the last 24 hours is a clear indication of community transmission.
He asked what measures the Government have taken up towards issues presented by the imposition of curfew/lockdown such as food shortage, essential items, unemployment, denial of treatments of non COVID patients, etc that are prevailing in the State now.
M Angamba also asked the Government if their policy is effective in containing COVID-19, considering that the number of positive cases is now nearing 4,000 with active cases of over 1,500 .
He further asked if the State Consultative Committee for COVID-19 and the State Government had put any preventive measures into practice to slow the virus spread, other than imposing lockdown and curfew.
Increasing healthcare capacity of hospitals is crucial to defeat this pandemic, Angamba suggested adding that all hospitals in the State should open a triage room and procure rapid antigen test kits to ensure treatments of both COVID and non-COVID patients.
Angamba cautioned that hospitals denying treatments will be dealt with accordingly by PTFC-19.Enough PPE for doctors, nurses and supporting staff of community health centre, primary health centre etc.
should be procured, he continued.
Saying that beds currently available in the State for treating/lodging COVID patients is not enough, Angamba urged the State Government to identify places/institutions which can be converted into COVID Care Centre at the earliest.
He also opined that establishing a hospital exclusively for COVID patients is imperative, considering that they might need emergency care at any given time/day.
Angamba further asked the Government if they have regulated any policy to ease the sufferings of the general public who are hit hard by the prolonged imposition of lockdown and curfew.
The Government should utilise all available resources to defeat this pandemic.
Meanwhile, the PTFC-19 along with Indian Red Cross Society Manipur State Branch, Balaram Khun Mamang Leikai COVID 19 Task Force and Development and Protection United Voluntary Organisation continued their awareness programme on COVID-19 at Keishamthong Moirangningthou Leirak, today.
