Trio tries luck with mushroom cultivation asks why run only after Govt job

Imphal, May 09 2019: Mongjam Amarjit, Leishangthem Nodiyachand and Phijam Meiteinganba of Yumnam Khunou Makha Leikai, Imphal East district are cultivating mushrooms together and earning their livelihood.

Speaking to The Sangai Express, Farmer Mongjam Amarjit stated that they are working together in cultivating two kinds of mushroom, namely Charuyel and Chenggum, and running the business together.

Amarjit said, he has completed bio technology and biochemistry in Bangalore and came home last year adding that he along with Leishangthem Nodiyachand and Phijam Meiteinganba started cultivating mushrooms at Amarjit's place as they don't prefer to stay idle after completing their studies.

Mongjam Amarjit (22) is the son of M Robindro, Leishangthem Nodiyachand (28) is son of L Bijoy and Phijam Meiteinganba (20) is son of P Neiteichand.

They started making their farm in a 50 metres long and 20 metres wide area while the roof and the boundaries of the farm were covered with polynets.

Citing the process of cultivating the mushrooms, Amarjit narrated that there were less profit when they start planting the mushrooms last year.

However, this year, they bought bundles of straw/hay right after the harvest season which were utilised in planting the mushrooms.

Now, the mushrooms are ready to be plucked when it enters day 15 from the day of the plantation.

He further informed that Chenggum is planted right after plucking Charuyel Amarjit, then told The Sangai Express that the Charuyel is sold at the wholesale rate of Rs 300 per kilogram while street vendors and dealers sell the mushroom from the rate between Rs 350-400 .

Meanwhile, he continued, Chenggum is sold at the rate between Rs 120-140 .

He said that the three of them are planning to invest the money, received from selling the mushrooms, to their farm and broaden their business while adding that the business will only be successful and progress if they all work together in unison.

Amarjit went on to state that he was eager to start working after coming home and added that it would only be wishful thinking if he sat idle at home waiting for a Government job.

Maintaining that no help were sought from the authority concerned till now, the 22 year old said that all three of them did not receive any professional training/classes.

He maintained that he will surely take part in any related training organised by the authorities concerned in the future.
