Imphal, December 07 2012:
Putting a big question mark on the future of 7-year old peace pact with the government, leaders of Kuki National Orgainsation (KNO) Friday backed from New Delhi and went to their respective destinations.
Though the tripartite Suspension of Operation (SoO) pact involving Government of India, Government of Manipur and United People's Front (UPF), an umbrella body of six odd Kuki based militant outfits, has been agreed to be extended for another one year during a joint meeting at New Delhi on December 5, the talk for extension of the pact with KNO leaderships remained inconclusive.
KNO is another umbrella body of 17 odd Kuki based militant outfits which are signatories of SoO.
No agreement on extension of SoO could be arrived at as KNO remained stick to its demand for a written assurance from New Delhi to initiate political dialogue on resolving Kuki issue.
KNO leaders were camping at New Delhi till yesterday (Thursday) on the assumption that government might invite them for another round of talk.
But no invitation has come, the KNO leaderships left New Delhi for their respective destination today, a source in the KNO said.
Although they come from New Delhi, whether the aggrieved KNO leaderships would return to their respective designated camps or not could not be ascertained.
The source disclosed that some of the KNO leaders went to Mizoram while others have headed to Churachandpur district.
Mention may be made that KNO had insisted officials of the Union home ministry, who represented the Centre in the December 5 tripartite talks at Asoka Hotel, Delhi to give a written assurance on beginning a political dialogue before signing of the extension of SoO term for another one year.
