As part of the 10th death anniversary of Manipuri writer, Kangjam Padmakumar, two novels (written by Padmakumar) were released, apart from unveiling three portraits of the late writer and his ancestors at his residence at Uripok Takhellambam Leikai today.
Professor Naorem Khogendro, Vice Chancellor, Manipur University of Culture and Kangjam Radhakumar, retired Commissioner, IPR, graced the function as the chief guest and president respectively.
Speaking to The Sangai Express, Kangjam Radhakumar (who is also the son of K Padmakumar) informed that his family follows the tradition of worshipping their ancestors since the time of his forefathers and hence the portraits were unveiled as part of the observation of the 10th death anniversary of his father.
He went on to say that the portraits were carved out of stone by a renowned stone carving artist, Mangi, from Toupokpi, while conveying that the two novels were written by his late father K Padmakumar during his life time.
Emphasizing the significance of worshipping one's ancestors, Radhakumar stated that it is the humble tradition of his family to preserve the line of hierarchy in the family and opined that such norm/tradition signifies the real essence of showing gratitude to one's ancestors.
