'Gas connection taken away for attending Congress meeting'

Bishnupur, December 06 2021: Nambol Municipal Council Ward No 10 Member, Saikhom Chandrakanta has alleged that suspected BJP workers took back a gas cylinder distributed under PMUY from a woman for attending a Congress meeting.

Saikhom Chandrakanta while addressing a press conference held at Nambol Sabal Leikai Community Hall on Saturday expressed his discontent over the incident and all involved to end such petty acts in the future.

In regard to the unfortunate incident, the Ward Member stated that Aheibam Ashangbi Devi (47), a beneficiary of PMUY earlier attended a meeting conducted in support of MLA N Loken Singh.

Upon returning home, her gas set was removed from her kitchen and taken away by alleged BJP workers, he added.

S Chandrakanta further urged the concerned authority to look into the matter as it portrayed the scheme and the Government in a bad light and appealed for the gas set to be returned to the beneficiary.

It may be noted that A Ashangbi Devi received the gas set on November 27 under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana Scheme as part of Go to Village 2.0 mission.

The press briefing was attended by Aheibam Ashangbi, S Chandrakanta Ward Member and residents of the locality.

Meanwhile, N Loken handed over two gas cylinders and a cooking gas set to Aheibam Ashangbi Devi.
