Chemist shops reopen

With the police busting a gang of Village Defence Force (VDF) personnel who have been terrorising the pharmacists in Thangal Bazar area of Imphal with monetary demand in the name of one UG group, chemist shops in the heart of the capital city started reopening from today morning, much to the relief of the public.
Chemist shops in Imphal were forced to down shutters for three consecutive days since October 3 after PREPAK (VC group) allegedly served monetary demand and threatened them with dire consequences if the demand is not met.
Closer of the chemist shops created lot of difficulties to the denizens of Imphal, particularly the patients undergoing treatment for various ailments.
But with Imphal West district police on Saturday arresting two VDF personnel who have been masquerading as UG cadres and serving extortion notes and threats to the chemist shops, the source of the threat and the monetary demand were unmasked and the problem solved.
The two arrested VDF personnel have been identity as Rocky Salam and Kene Khangembam.
Both of them have been terminated from their service.
