Senapati, August 06 2024:
The Purul Youth & Students Organization (PYSO) and Koide Youth and Students Organization (KY SO) have urged the authorities concerned to initiate repair works of the Maram-Purul road which is in a deplorable condition.
The student bodies in a statement highlighted that the Maram-Purul Road which was constructed under the PMGSY for a stretch of 22 kms is in a deplorable condition due to non maintenance of the road for a long time.
It is worth noting that the road is the only lifeline for more than 40 Poumai villages in the Lepaona and Chilivai circle, within the 47-Karong Assembly Constituency.
The said road stretch has been in a bad shape over the past few months after the monsoons and is filled with numerous potholes, cracks, and hazardous debris making travel increasingly dangerous.
Such dangerous conditions not only cause inconveniences to the drivers but also pose serious risks to the passengers, said the student bodies.
Despite multiple complaints made to the responsible contractor and departments concerned, no positive measures have been taken to address the issue.
It is disheartening to witness the deterioration of the community's infrastructure due to negligence and lack or accountability, the two student bodies remarked.
The student bodies urged all concerned to initiate measures to repair the road without further delay for the safety and well-being of the villagers.
Maram-Phaibung Road Development Association chairman, KS Solomon stated that the delay has been extended due to complete negligence by the contractors.
The two student bodies warned of democratic agitation if the repair works is not initiated at the earliest.
