Imphal, July 06 2013 :
All Tribal Students' Union Manipur (ATSUM) has vehemently condemned the indiscriminate firing at random in front of the Churachandpur Police station as a measure to control the mob on June 30, as one of the police firing victims succumbed today.
ATSUM information secretary Micah Kamei said that although the gravity of the situation was chaotic the police should have used tear gas and rubber bullets instead of live bullets that had taken the life of a promising young man on the sixth day aftermath the ugly episode occurred in Churachandpur police station.
Lunminsiam Guite, 20 years old, s/o Liankhopau Guite of Zenhang Lamka succumbed to his fatal injuries as some the bullets had penetrated into the intestine.
"Time and again, columnists, social activists and intellectuals have been doing the round of sensitizing the ills of the personnel in uniform as well as at social forum against the heinous crime perpetrated against the public instead of giving aid and protection.
Unfortunately, things do not seem to go well with numerous reports of rape, fake encounters, molestations and other social vices indulged by personnel in uniform.
Had it not been with the lust and criminal intention of capturing a love making scene of the two consenting adult in the thicket at the vicinity of the Khuga Dam by the IRB personnel and the video circulation in the internet, volatile upheavals would not have happened," Micah Kamei stated.
While condemning the episode of terror, the ATSUM is compelled to urge the Government of Manipur to extend substantial help to the bereaved family in the form of ex-gratia to the nearest kith and kin and provide a suitable job for the deceased wife.
It is worth mentioned that exemplary punishment be awarded to those personnel involved in the action, ATSUM demanded.
