Interaction programme on "Awareness on Nematodes" held at Khongnem Thana

A one day training cum interaction programme on "Awareness of Nematodes" was held at Community Hall, Khongnem Thana, Senapati district, toady.
The programme was organised by the ICAR-A11 India Coordinated Research Project (AICRP) on "Nematodes in Agriculture" under Directorate of Research, Central Agricultural University, Imphal, Manipur.
Addressing the programme as a resource person, Dr Ksh Sumita, Scientist, AICRP (Nematodes in Agriculture) delivered a lecture on "Introduction to Nematodes: Crop losses, importance and symptoms and management in different crops through organic approaches" .
She deliberated on the possible symptoms in the fields and the measures to manage crop loss.
Defining the meaning of nematode, the resource person mentioned that it is a zoological term for a worm of the large Phylum Nematoda, such as roundworm or threadworm, that could increase infestation in insects to cause disease.
Dr Ksh Sumita further displayed a presentation on "Nematode-pest of vegetables, crop production, crop improvement, crop protection and food processing & value added" .
She reiterated that crop protection consists of entomology, plant pathology and nematology, economic importance of nematodes in agriculture, difference between nodules and root-knot.
Later, Neem oil cake powder for nematode management and improved vegetable seeds were distributed to the villagers.
The programme was attended by more than 30 farmers of the village.
