KSTC kicks off initiative to clean Senapati River

Senapati, November 05 2024: The Karong Senapati Town Committee (KSTC) under the aegis of the Autonomous District Council, Senapati has taken up the initiative to clean the Senapati River.

The cleaning, which commenced from November 1, was taken up following a discussion held on October 28 with chairmen/secretaries of different villages and colonies located along the Senapati River in Senapati District Headquarters.

The talks brought to light the importance of the river which is the lifeline of Senapati District Headquarters and the need for its maintenance by refraining from disposing garbage, or directly turning the river into an unsanitary outlet of human/animal wastes.

An inspection of the river was also conducted while the cleaning initiative was underway.

In this connection, sources from the Karong Senapati Town Committee (KSTC) stated that three labourers have been employed on a daily wage basis since October 1, including KSTC officials, who started cleaning the portion of the river from Bethany Higher Secondary School, Rikhumai Taphou and reached Senapati Bridge on Tuesday.

It was also mentioned that cleaning of the wastes along the river will continue till the District Council office.

After the cleaning initiative is complete, sources have shared that a new order is likely to be issued by the DC/CEO, ADC, Senapati in the near future restricting disposal of solid wastes into the Senapati River.
