Imphal, October 05 2015:
Manipur Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam on Monday stated that the Government is not against the demands for the formation of Jiribam and Sadar Hills as new Districts of the State.
Gaikhangam made the statement on the sidelines of a visit to the blood donation camp at Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) hospital held in connection with the 125th birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru organised by National Students' Union of India (NSUI) Manipur State and Immunohematology and Blood Transfusion Department of RIMS.
The Deputy Chief Minister said that people's movements demanding the formation of Jiribam and Sadar Hills as new districts is reasonable but these demands need to be examined carefully before the State Government takes any final decision.

Replying to questions asked on frequent looting of passengers on vehicles plying along National Highways, the Deputy Chief Minister who is also in charge of Home Department said that the State Government has been closely monitoring the situation.
He also stated that those groups under Suspension of Operation (SoO) have been asked not to commit such acts.
"If they (SoO) are involved, action will be taken against them," said Gaikhangam.
On the blood donation camp, Gaikhangam said that the camp will help people of the State in times of need.
The volunteers should be lauded for organizing such a camp and donating blood for saving lives, said Gaikhangam.
He also appealed people from all walks of life to be united and live in peace.
On the demand for the formation of Jiribam District, it may be mentioned that the Jiribam District Demand Committee (JDDC) has already made its intention clear.
The committee is all set to resume agitation soon as it has revoked its decision to suspend the earlier stir launched over the demand for up-gradation of Jiribam into a full-fledged District.
The Committee on Sunday said the State Government is still not willing to implement the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed with JDDC on November 9, 2011, committee convenor M Meipaksana Mangang said.
