Villagers organise tree plantation competition on Van Mahotsav

Tengnoupal, July 05 2019: As part of celebrating the 70th Vanmahotsav, a tree plantation program was conducted at the site of the newly constructed Aimol Baptist Church, Ngairong centre, Tengnoupal district.

Village leaders from 13 different Aimol villages from different parts of the State took part in the tree planting competition.

During the competition, each villages planted six seedlings and each of the village took the responsibility of preparing the site of plantation, alignment and digging the pit, plantation and taking care of the plants.

N Munal Meitei, Range Forest Officer/ Soil & Water Conservation-I, judged the competition and Khudengthabi village, Aimol Khullen village, Khodamphai bagged the 1st, 2nd and 3rd position respectively and Chingnunghut village and Aimol Khunyai village were jointly selected on the 4th position.

As a part of the program, N Munal Meitei, Range Forest Officer told the gathering that, owing to the scanty rainfall, the farmers are still not able to plant crops till now.

Such environmental crisis is the result of indiscriminate felling of trees in the past.

More and more dreaded environment problems will be sprung up and the future condition of environment in Manipur is very grim, he added.

As such, with the coming of Vanmahotsav celebration, N Munal Meitei appealed to all to plant at least one tree for the sack of the mother earth and the future generation.

Rev Senei Serto, secretary of Aimol Baptist Association, Ch Ragailong, retired Range Forest Officer, representatives from different Aimol villages of Manipur, members of Aimol Baptist Association and Planning Committee were present in the occasion.
