Imphal, February 05 2013:
The 'tripartite talks' involving United Naga Council (UNC), the Government of Manipur and the Central Government representatives will be held on February 12 on the 'alternative arrangement'.
Sources informed NNN that the Government has intimated this information to the UNC leaders today.
The sources added that the venue of the talk is Senapati district headquarters.
On the other hand, UNC is yet to comment on the development officially.
"We will minutely discuss and comment on it officially on Wednesday," said UNC president L Adani when contacted.
The UNC had set February 17 as the deadline for the Government to respond on the demand for resumption of the tripartite talks on the demand for 'alternative arrangement' of Nagas in Manipur.
Meanwhile, in a joint operation conducted in the early hours of Tuesday, personnel of 17 and 19 Assam Rifles under HQ 5 Sect, HQ IGAR (North) have apprehended one NSCN (IM) cadre and recovered a huge consignment of highly sophisticated weapons that included two AK 56 Rifles, three GSG-5 Rifles, one GSG-5 carbine and five 9mm Glock pistols along with 24 rounds of ammunition and Rs 10,170 in cash from his possession.
According to a press communiqu of Assam Rifles, the joint team launched the operation based on reliable information regarding illegal transshipment of arms and ammunition from Ukhrul to NSCN (IM) base at Hebron, Dimapur in a Bolero jeep bearing registration No.NL 07 C 5420 .
Upon questioning, the apprehended NSCN (IM) cadre revealed that these eleven weapons were a part of a larger consignment of highly sophisticated weapons procured recently by the faction from foreign countries and was headed for Hebron.
It may be noted that these weapons are manufactured in Germany and Austria.
"The timing, sophistication and lethality of these weapons are a clear indicator of the ulterior motives and nefarious designs of the faction in the run up to the Assembly elections.
Sadly, just 24 hours prior, during the Cease Fire Monitoring Group (CFMG) meeting on February 4, the NSCN (IM) delegation had made tall claims as to how the faction was committed to maintaining peace in Nagaland.
This huge arms haul lays bare and exposes the real truth behind the dubious claims being made by the faction with regards to its adherence to the cease fire ground rules and the peace process," the Assam Rifles note added.
It was owing to the timely action by the Assam Rifles that a major threat to the peaceful conduct of forthcoming elections has been averted, claimed the Assam Rifles.
