Moreh, December 04 2020:
Even as the Central Government has made tall claims of electrifying the whole country a couple of years back, the villagers of D Zalenbung village in Tengnoupal district is still fighting darkness as the village is yet to get electrified.
The village along the Indo-Myanmar village and 30 km away from Moreh has not only been longing for electricity connection but also for proper road connectivity for years.
The village is inhabited by more than 150 households of 26 different clans and has a primary school under Autonomous District Council where around 100 children from the village and its neighbouring villages are getting education.
Highlighting the plights the village is facing, son of the village chief Ngullenshong Guite told this correspondent that the village being situated at the periphery of the Tengnoupal district and bordering Chandel district, has been neglected for years in terms of road and electricity connectivities.
The road links connecting the village have been in extremely dilapidated condition and as such the villagers are facing extreme hardships even in this era, he said.
While urging authorities concerned to expedite the construction of road to the village (D Zalenbung) from Moreh village which is also known as DC road, he also highlighted that there are no proper bridges even as there are many streams in between the said villages.
The situation gets even more grim during the rainy season as the villagers in need of medical attention had to be carried for many kilometers on foot towards the healthcare facility at Moreh, he said.
The villagers, before the COVID-19 outbreak, used to take better and shorter routes within Myanmar to reach Moreh but with the border being sealed, that option is no longer available, he continued.
