Imphal, October 04 2014 :
Even as Chief Minister O Ibobi instructed workers of Simplex Company which is entrusted with the construction of the new four-lane Sanjenthong Bridge to finish the construction of the bridge before coming Sangai Festival 2014 to be held at Hapta Kangjeibung, it is most unlikely that the construction will be completed ahead of the festival with the construction work coming to a standstill as all the workers are on leave for festivals.
The bridge being constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 32 crores measures 55.8 meters in length and 22.7 meters in breadth.
The company is engaging a total of 40 workers which have been working day and night on war footing design of the bridge.
However, the work has been halted since October 1 with all the workers leaving for their home places for festivals.

When a reporter of Hueiyen Lanpao went to inspect the ongoing construction work of the bridge today, the construction work was found halted with only one engineer of the company found present at the construction site.
However, two excavators were seen digging and pulling out earths at the northern and southern side of the bridge.
As stated by the engineer, almost 90 percent civil work of the bridge has been completed.
Erection work will be started jus after full completion of the civil work.
When asked on the halting of construction work of the bridge, the engineer replied that the construction work was compelled to cease as several workers who are Hindus have left for their home places to celebrate Durga Puja while the remaining workers who are Muslims also left the work site for joining their family members to celebrate Id-ul-Zuha festival.
Since all the workers are on leave to celebrate Durga Puja, Id-ul-Zuha and Dussehra, construction work of the bridge will be resumed only after they returned back but that will be after October 6, he said.
