Imphal, August 04 2015:
The Kuki Chiefs' Association, Moreh Block has expressed gratitude to the chief and villagers of Tuipi for extending possible help to the stranded passengers in crossing their village from Tengnoupal on foot.
Meanwhile, the KCA in a statement expressed concern over the collapse of Menal bridge constructed by 82-RCC, BRTF/GREF in the night of July 31 .
On inspection, the KCA found that the quality maintenance was compromised in the bridge construction, it alleged.
The bridge was constructed and laid without any holding structures and was just kept over the foundation causing it to shake even with the movement of light vehicles.
Some bridges which were constructed during WW-II still stand firm and solid and can hold heavy vehicles without any danger.
The collapsed bridge is not even 10 years old but is easily washed away by the river water, it said.
The KCAMB said that people of the area do not want construction of such bridges which are planned to be taken up in the near future along Moreh-New Somtal road.
Pointing out that people of Moreh and the surrounding areas are depending on food and other essential commodities being brought from Imphal, KCAMB said that the recent landslides had caused untold miseries and hardships to the people.
People are sure to starve to death if no immediate construction of road is done.
It appealed to the authority concerned to take up road construction and repair work on war footing to revive connectivity within a short span of time.
It also urged all concerned to maintain quality in all schemes/projects undertaken in Moreh area.
