In view of the upgradation of Tulihal Airport at Imphal into an International airport recently, a meeting of the State Cabinet convened today has decided to start operation of an Immigration Centre at the airport and setting up of an office for issuing Visa-on-Arrival at the border town Moreh very soon.
Chaired by Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh, the Cabinet meeting was held at the Chief Minister's Secretariat starting from 3 pm.
Talking to media persons in connection with the Cabinet meeting, Government spokesperson and Minister of Education M Okendro said that the required staffs for the Immigration Centre and the Visa-on-Arrival office to be set up respectively at Imphal Airport and at Moreh would be utilised from the state Home Department.
Even though the Home Department proposed creation of 26 posts for the required staffs to run the Immigration Centre and the Visa-on-Arrival office, the Cabinet decided on utilising the required staffs from the Home Department itself in view of the existing financial condition.
Accordingly, the proposal of the Home Department was withdrawn, Okendro said.
Informing that in addition to giving its approval to setting up an IIIT in Bishnupur District and The Manipur Protection of Interests of Depositors (in Finance Establishment) Bill, 2012, the Government spokesperson explained that the Bill when it is passed by the Assembly and enacted as Act, it would ensure taking up necessary action in cases related to duping of depositors of their money with false promises of huge return either by financial establishments or through Multi Level marketing (MLM), Chain Business, Network Business, etc.
