Social Welfare bags 3rd position

The Department of Social Welfare, Government of Manipur has bagged the third position for exemplary performance in implementation of Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY) scheme during Matru Vandana Saptah.
Manipur has been selected for the award in the category of States/UTs having population less than one crore.
Dadra & Nagar Haveli and Sikkim bagged the first and second position respectively under this category.
Director, Social Welfare, Manipur, Ng Uttam and Deputy Secretary, Social Welfare, Manipur, Dr Sonia Oinam received the award from Union Minister of Women and Child Development, Smriti Irani during an award function held at New Delhi today.
Union Minister, Smriti Irani appreciated improvement in enrolment from 29% to 71% during the last one year under Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana during the Matru Vandana Saptah.
Social Welfare and Cooperation Minister Nemcha Kipgen lauds the department for this feat and expressed that it was the concerted efforts of all officials concerned, officers and line departments that the department was able to achieve such laurel.
She encouraged all to continue striving hard for the welfare of the State through various schemes and programmes implemented by the Government.
Nemcha, on behalf of the Department of Social Welfare, also extended gratitude to all the District Commissioners, Health Department, Banks, India Post Office, DPO, CDPOs, Supervisors, Anganwadi Workers, Helpers for their active participation.
In Manipur, a total number of 30,481 beneficiaries have been enrolled since the start of this scheme.
Special enrolment help desk were opened during Matru Vandana Saptah in all Government hospitals, CHCs, PHCs, Sub-centres and private hospitals for facilitating on-spot registration for eligible beneficiaries, under PMMVY.
The Matru Vandana Saptah is a week-long maternity benefit programme which was taken up under PMMVY from December 2 to 8, 2019, to intensify the implementation of the scheme; create a healthy competition among State/UTs; and felicitate States/UTs and Districts for exemplary performance in implementation of PMMVY, since its inception and during Matru Vandana Saptah.
In Manipur, the Matru Vandana Saptah was observed till December 16, 2019 as advised by the Chief Minister.
It may be mentioned that the main objective of the PMMVY scheme is to provide incentives of Rs 5000 to pregnant women and lactating mothers for first living child of the family in three instalments for the loss of wages of working women and to ensure their proper rest and nutrition during pregnancy.
The payment of the incentive amount is deposited directly into the bank account.
