Jiribam, December 02 2024: The shraddha ceremony of the 8 individuals from Jiribam's Jakuradhor Karong who were brutally killed by Kuki-Zo Hmar militants were performed today before people took out a procession in and around Jiribam town.

Notably two elders - Maibam Keso and Laishram Baren were burnt to death in a well coordinated attack by Kuki-Zo Hmar militants on November 11 while 6 women and children - Yurembam Rani Devi, Telem Thoibi Devi, Laishram Haitonbi Devi, Telem Thajamanbi Devi, Laishram Lamnganba and Laishram Chingkheinganba were abducted, tortured, shot dead and dumped into the Barak river.

The shraddha ceremony was organised by the joint action committee formed in connection with the incident, and the family members of the victims at Lamlen community hall, Babubara in Jiribam.

A procession was taken out from Jiribam Higher Secondary School and covered Jiri Ema Keithel, Kalimai Mamang and NH-37 along Babupara area.

Jiribam denizens including students took part in the procession and raised slogans seeking justice for the victims and action against the perpetrators.
