Imphal, November 02 2013 :
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) hit out at O Ibobi Government of Manipur on Saturday for giving clearance for utilizing the land of Yangoupokpi Lokchao Wildlife Sanctuary in Chandel district for Indo-Myanmar Border Fencing.
Addressing reporters at Manipur unit of BJP office here, party's National General Secretary Tapir Gao accused the state's Congress Govt headed by Ibobi of openly cheating the people of the state and the nation as well by granting clearance for the boundary fencing across the Wildlife Sanctuary.
He said this issue has been highlighted by the Home Secretary and the statement was published in Times of India on its October 31, 2013 issue.
The BJP leader said the state Wildlife Advisory Board headed by the Chief Minister had given the clearance during the period 2006-2007 for construction of the border fence inside the sanctuary.
It is also clear that the Ministry of Home Affairs has sanctioned around Rs 6,00 lakh for the Compensatory Afforestation Management and Planning Authority (CAMPA) set up by the Supreme Court under the administrative control of Ministry of Environment and Forest to compensate the loss of forest area in the Yangoupokpi Lokchao Wildlife Sanctuary, he mentioned.
He said it has been learned from a reliable source that some portion of the amount has already been deposited to the state Forest Department for afforestation activities.
On the present law and order in the state, Tapir said Manipur has been hit by a series of deadly bomb blasts killing innocent public right under the nose of Ibobi and this has clearly indicated the failure of the intelligence network.
"We strongly condemn such attacks targeting innocent people.
The Government needs necessary steps to pin down them in order that these are not happened in future," Tapir said.
Reacting to the statement made by Spokesperson of the State Government and Education Minister M Okendro threatening the people with re-imposition of Armed Forces Special Powers Act, 1958 in Imphal Greater area, the BJP leader asserted that this kind of statement/threat implies that incident of series of bomb blasts which took place in greater Imphal area over the last few days implies that the Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh led Congress Government has been planning for re-imposition of the draconian Army law in Greater Imphal area.
Furthermore, the BJP National General Secretary hit out at the state police force, saying there are a number of reports on incidents like kidnapping for ransom, cases of rape, drug trafficking and molestation involving the state police personnel.
"Overall morality and the discipline of the security personnel in Manipur have become extremely downgraded because of the high degree of corruption at the time of their recruitment processes.
It is commonly known fact that to pay the bribe money in terms of lakhs to become a security personnel/State force, the poor patient mortgaged their plots of land and paddy fields and turn them into landless peasants in the State", Tapir noted.
He also lashed out at the Congress Government for its failure to provide basic amenities to the people, calling the Ibobi Government an anti-people and failed Government which needs to be dragged down from power.
