Alfred named in ST Committee

Imphal, August 02 2024: Outer Manipur MP Alfred Kanngam S Arthur has been elected to serve as a member of the Committee on the Welfare of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (2024-25) .

He was among twenty Lok Sabha members elected to the Committee.

Their tenure will end on April 30, 2025 .

A motion in this respect was adopted by the House on July 1, 2024 and 27 nominations were filed.

Subsequently, 7 candidates withdrew their candidature from the election.

Aside from Alfred Kanngam S Arthur, Arunachal East MP Tapir Gao is the only other MP from the North East elected to the Committee.

Pratima Mondal, MP from Jaynagar, West Bengal is the only woman in the Committee.
