Imphal, August 02 2020: Tension erupted among the villagers of Wakha and Naharup today after a minor scuffle broke out between some youths of the two villages over a road rage near Wakha Babu Macha Leikai under Porompat Police Station.

At least seven persons from both parties reportedly sustained minor injuries in the scuffle and they have been admitted at JNIMS for first aid and treatment.

According to the sources, the scuffle among the youths broke out in the evening today over a road rage on Wakha and Naharup inter village road.

However, the minor scuffle turned ugly when rumours about youths being thrashed by locals of one of the villages spread leading to a larger confrontation among the locals.

After locals got involved in exchange of heated arguments, some fired rounds of bullets in the air using license guns.

Later, a large number of police personnel and commando team of Imphal East district rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control.

Porompat Police has summoned the injured members of the two parties who started the scuffle to work out an amicable solution, said sources.

Police and commando personnel are deployed at the two villages to avoid unwanted incidents.
