Institute of Driver Training & Research Centre almost complete

Explaining that infrastructure development works for Institute of Driver Training & Research Centre (IDTRC), is currently underway at Top Dusera, Imphal East, under a Central project aimed at strengthening road safety activities/initiatives in the State and providing skill development programmes, H Dilipkumar (president of IDTRC, Manipur) has exuded confidence that the rate of road accidents in the State can be reduced by at least 3 0 percent and a platform for job generation for numerous people in the State will be available, once the ongoing construction work is finished and the institute becomes full fledged.
Speaking to media persons at IDTRC's conference hall, ISBT complex , today, H Dilipkumar informed that IDTRC has been taking up a pilot project called Project IDTRC in the State under the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, India.
He said that the cost of the project is Rs 12.70 crore and was sanctioned by the Ministry last year as a first of its kind in the North East region under the 12th Five Years Plan.
The infrastructure development work is going on at Top Dusera, at the foothills of Nongmaiching Hill and will be completed by 2020 according to the guidelines given by the Ministry.
Once the construction work is completed, the institute will be equipped with all the necessary manpower and infrastructure to provide training for driving and automobile mechanical works to the people of the State, he said.
The project will help minimise road accidents to a great extent and will also provide an avenue for employment generation in the State, the president added.
Dilipkumar also said that IDTRC under Project IDTRC will also enhance road safety awareness programmes and asserted that the institute in collaboration with the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, will organize a mega State level workshop for promotion of road safety this month.
Asserting that IDTRC, Manipur has been recognised as a driving school by the State Government, Dilipkumar claimed that the institute has provided learners licenses to 14, 128 people till date.
Shantikumar Naorem, member secretary, IDTRC, Manipur and Kh Deben, vice principal, IDTRC were also present at the meet.
