Interaction programme on "New Criminal Laws" held

Imphal West District Police organised an interaction programme on "New Criminal Laws" at City Police Station today.
It was attended by Ashem Tarunakumari, Chief Judicial Magistrate, Imphal West; Chaoba Phuritsabam, Assistant Public Prosecutor, CJM Imphal West; Neera Sinam, Judicial Magistrate 1st Class, Kakching and Advocate Salam Debananda, media coordinator, Manipur State Legal Services Authority as presidium members.
Speaking on the occasion, Chaoba Phuritsabam highlighted some of the major changes that have been incorporated in the new criminal laws such as audio-video recording of search & seizure operation, introduction of e-FIR provision, removal of provisions for unnecessary arrest, provision of zero FIR, etc.
Highlighting that the police are facing a lot of problems due to the changes, he asserted that the interaction programme was organised to enhance their understanding of the recent developments in criminal laws and ensure efficient & expeditious investigations.
Furthermore, Chaoba said that the need for coordination between the police and Magistrates has become more significant with the increasing focus on victim centric approach and introduction of digital/electronic evidence.
