Intl Day of Older Persons observed

Imphal, October 01 2017: Like in other parts of the world, the International Day of Older Persons 2017 was observed in the State today .

The State level function was held at Thangmeiband Khunthokhanbi Sanglen with Social Welfare and Cooperation Minister Nemcha Kipgen attending as chief guest .

Speaking on the occasion, Minister Kipgen drew the attention of all the NGOs and stakeholders to lend necessary assistance to those older persons in distress and open doors for them.

She assured that she will urge the Government to open a hospital specially for old-aged people .

Stressing on the theme of this year "Stepping into the Future: Tapping the Talents, Contributions and Participation of Older Persons in Society", the Minister highlighted the major contributions of the older persons in moulding our society and enlightening us with the rays of development .

Wherever we, as a society stand today, major credit goes to them, she said .

On this occasion, Social Welfare Department presented gifts to the older persons present at the function as a token of appreciation .

The function was also attended by Commissioner, Social Welfare H Deleep Singh, Director, Social Welfare Jacintha Lazarus and Joint Director, Social Welfare Surrender A Shishak as president and guests of honour respectively .

District Social Welfare Office, Imphal West along with All Manipur Senior Citizens Welfare Association, Mongsangei also observed the day at the premises of Old Age Home, Mongsangei .

The observance function was graced by Health and Family Welfare, Law and Justice Minister L Jayantakumar as chief guest; CAF&PD and Revenue Minister Karam Shyam as president and president of All Manipur Senior Citizens Welfare Association, L Gourachandra as guest of honour .

The International Day of Older Persons 2017 was also observed by 86 Bn, CRPF at its campus wherein elderly persons of the nearby areas were honoured.

They were briefed about their rights, Government schemes for senior citizens, good care and maintenance.
