Poll violence reported from Chandel

Amidst stray violent incidents a large number of voters turned up in Chandel District to cast votes on Monday.
From early morning the voters were in the long queue.
However, the electorate in some stations could not cast votes due to booth capturing and pouring of ink inside the ballot boxes.
Such untoward indents were reported in 3 polling stations under 41- Chandel Assembly Constituency and 6 polling stations under 42-Tengnoupal Assembly Constituency.
At 10/4 Angkhel Chayang Polling Station, miscreants poured water inside the ballot boxes and the ballot papers were also torn up at 11/7 Mitong Polling Station.
However, the voting process at 10/4 Angkhel Chayang continued after brief halt due to the incident but it was again stopped as one of the Candidates' agents complained that he was not informed before continuing the voting.
Some individuals also poured ink inside the ballot boxes at 1/1 Tollen, 1/2 Khoibu centre, 1/6 Konaitong and 3/6 Nungourok Polling Stations under 42 Tengnoupal Assembly constituency.
At 1/5 Bongli Polling Station, Large group of women folks armed with sticks stormed the polling station and destroyed ballot boxes along with ballot papers after some cadres of SoO signatories captured the polling booth for a particular candidate.
There was also a report of a clash between the workers of two candidates at Khudei Khunou Polling Station in 9-Purum District Council Constituency.
Repolls may be conducted for 11/7 Mitong and 21/5 Anal Khunou Polling stations in Chandel A/C and 1/1 Tollen, 1/2 Khoibu centre, 1/3 Thamlai, 1/6 Konaitong and 3/6 Nungourok Polling Stations under 42 Tengnoupal Assembly constituency.
Meanwhile, some workers of a rival candidate stormed the residence of BJP candidate at Maringphai Village in Chandel District at around 5.30 p.m.on Monday and ransacked his house and vandalized a Tata Sumo Vehicle bearing Registration No.MN04/1389 .
The BJP Candidate was identified as TC Mephun Maring who is contesting the ADC Election for a seat of 4 Kangoi DCC.
