Imphal, June 01 2013 :
All Manipur Students Guardians' Organisation (AMSGO) has categorically stated that the State Government ought to pay attention to the public demand for implementation of Inner Line Permit System in Manipur and it would be unfair on the part of the State Government to treat the agitators as some sort of anti-social elements.
Addressing a press conference at the Palace Compound office of AMSGO here today, its Secretary Organisation S Sumati, General Secretary O Yaima, Treasurer H Borbabu and Executive Member Kh Mahendra recalled that after the State Assembly adopted a resolution on implementation of Inner Line Permit system in 2002, the same had been forwarded to the Central Government for doing the needful and the public lauded the resolution of the State Assembly.
But as nothing really has happened, public have become suspicious, and thus, the renewed agitation over the demand for implementation of Inner Line Permit system has come about.
Furthermore, they recalled that on May 10, the Joint Committee on ILP System had served ultimatum to the Governor and the Chief Minister for implementation of ILP within May 31 .
The issue had also been discussed in the Chief Minister's conference hall on May 20 along with Chief Minister, Ministers and Chief Secretary for one and half hours and the deadline was extended till May 31 .
So, after failing to pay attention to the demand for so long, it would be unfair on the part of the Government to treat the agitators like anti-social elements.
If the agitators were to be arrested, then why should not all the 60 members of the House, who have adopted the resolution for implementation of Inner Line Permit System be arrested as well, they questioned.
The Government ought to pay attention, listen and support the public demand for saving the indigenous people from extinction.
The demand of the Joint Committee is for the people of Manipur, and thus, the Government ought to bring about a white paper on the issue and made it public instead of trying to fuel public anger through unjustified action against the agitators.
As in Mizoram, Arunachal Pradesh and Nagaland, Inner Line Permit system should also be implemented in Manipur, they demanded.
