Vehicle lifters� gang busted, 4 held

Together with pulling up four members of a vehicle lifters� gang, Imphal East commandos have recovered 13 stolen two-wheelers along with tools used in manipulating engine and chassis numbers.
The apprehended gang members were paraded before media persons last afternoon at Imphal East Police Headquarters, Porompat.
Speaking to media persons, Imphal East Addl SP (Ops) Moirangthem Rajen said that a commando team led by Imphal East Commando OC P Achouba Meitei were checking and frisking commuters on the eastern side of Minuthong under his instruction when they nabbed a youth at about 4.30 pm of March 30.The youth apprehended with a white Honda Activa was identified as one Naorem Thomas alias Malemnganba (21) s/o late Bokul of Chingkhu Mayai Leikai.
It turned that the Honda Activa rode by Thomas was a stolen one and he was bringing it to an automobile servicing centre known as Ibai Workshop at Minuthong.
Earlier too, Thomas had brought another stolen Honda Activa to the same workshop, said ASP Rajen.
Acting on the disclosure, three other persons were also pulled up one after another.
They were identified as Sarangthem Tomba (32) s/o Mani of Yairipok Heirong but staying near Thoubal DC office, Md Akhalas Khan (20) s/o Md Hijbur Khan of Sangaiyumpham Part I but staying at Commando complex and Maibam Rakjesh alias Gugu (20) s/o Khogen of Khundrakpam Awang Leikai.
One black Yamaha R-15, one blue Bajaj Pulsar 200, three numbers of Yamaha FZ, three numbers of grey Honda Activa, four numbers of white Honda Activa and one red Honda Activa were recovered from their possession.
All the vehicles have no registration numbers.
They were stolen from different places and kept separately at different places.
Sarangthem Tomba is a mechanic well adept in manipulating engine and chassis numbers.
Some tools used in manipulating chassis and engine numbers were also recovered from his possession.
The ASP said that BOAT, Palace Compound is one area in Imphal East district where maximum numbers of vehicle lifting were reported.
Following the arrest, Porompat Police have launched due investigation together with registration of a case, informed ASP Rajen adding that some members of the gang were still at large.
