Imphal, February 01, 2013:
CPI Manipur State Council has today launched & month long campaign on the demands of scrapping Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act, re-introduction of Inner Line Permit System in Manipur and establishment of a fast track Court for dealing with crimes against women.
The campaign was launched with a simple function at Rupmahal Theatre where comrade Langol Iboyaima, former Minister Dr M Nara and comrade Th Tomba were present as presidium.
Addressing the gathering, Langol Iboyaima said that the campaign which would continue till March 3 would cover all major public issues such as violation of human rights, incessant influx of migrants, ever rising number of unemployed youths, unavailability of PDS goods in time and in adequate quantities, rising rate of crimes against women, unavailability of potable water to a large section of the society etc.
CPI State Council would also strive together with civil society organisations and student bodies and see that all these major issues are addressed systematically without undue delay.
To keep States in an abnormally subordinate position with regard to their relationship with the Centre is unacceptable.
All the States should be given fair degree of autonomy politically as well as economically. However, Manipur is not enjoying any kind of autonomy and the State Government is literally acting at the diktats of New Delhi, Langol Iboyaima asserted.
The State Government is incapable of taking any political decision of its own.
The State Government need to be gutsy enough to maintain some sort of balance in the State-Centre relationship.
The main demands/points which would be raised in the course of the campaign are closure of NSCN-IM camps located within the territory of Manipur, punishment of Livingstone, Centre should not touch integrity of Manipur, peaceful co-existence among different communities, enforcement of ILPS in Manipur, abolition of AFSPA, initiation of political dialogue with rebel groups, re-modeling of the outdated electoral system, provision of 35 Kgs of rice to every household at the price of Rs 2 per Kg, provision of job or unemployment allowance to youth, establishment of a fast track for dealing with crimes against women, containing corruption, free and compulsory education up to class XII, prevention of privatization of Electricity Department etc.
