Non-local dupes Rs 35 lakh from locals

At a time when the people of Manipur are cautious enough towards checking inflow of non-locals into the state and the public's cry for implementation of Inner Line Permit (ILP) System is growing louder with each passing day, an incident of non-local man duping people with an amount of Rs 35 lakhs on the pretext of constructing hospitals, schools and a Masjid (place of worship for Muslims) has come to light.
The incident was disclosed by Hussain Ahmad, one of the members of the duped families while speaking to media persons at the office of Joint Committee Inner Line Permit System (JCILPS) located at Nongmeibung here today.
The person who duped them of their hard earned money with false promises has been identified as one Irfan Ahmad Merchant (45) s/o Khalid Hareeb Ahmad from Mumbai but staying at Mantripukhri near Manipur Mall in Imphal East district.
It is said that the accused Irfan left behind two minor children, a five-year old girl and a ten-year old boy at his rented house.
The two children were also brought before the media persons during the press conference at the JCILPS office today.
