Imphal, June 30 2021: In a bid to encourage mass vaccination drive being taken up in all the assembly constituencies of the state, chief minister N Biren Singh has announced cash reward of Rs 20 lakh to the first fully vaccinated assembly constituency.

The announcement was made during the launch of Mobile Insulated Vaccination bus at Khurai Lamlong Keithel, Imphal East on Wednesday.

The bus is donated by Khurai MLA L Susindro Meitei.

Addressing the gathering, Biren recounted that India started the world's largest free vaccination drive under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

While contending out that the Covid-19 second wave scenario in the state is not as dreadful when compared to other states in the country, he said that public understanding and support to initiatives of the government saved the state from further worsening of the scenario.

People need to know that the pandemic should not be taken lightly.

The presence of some people who overlooked the pandemic is one of the main reasons for the distress caused to many in the state, he contended, while adding that Covid-19 vaccination is the only weapon to fight the pandemic.

The CM exhorted the people not to believe in unfounded rumours being spread against vaccination.

Stating that people have lost their loved ones due to the pandemic, the chief minister urged all eligible people to get vaccinated at the earliest to protect from the infectious disease.

Seeking public support and cooperation in the fight against Covid-19, he said "we all must maintain Covid appropriate behaviour and guidelines issued by the government" .

"Some people do not have the ability of appreciating the initiative of free mass vaccination undertaken by PM Modi for saving the lives of the people but ridiculed the government for increasing Re one in petrol price", Biren remarked, while adding the people should learn to honour and appreciate others.

Saving the lives of the people is the priority of the government, he added.

Speaking on the occasion, MLA L Susindro pointed out that vaccination programme for Khurai AC has been conducted at Popular High School and mobile team also organised vaccination drive in several areas of the constituency every day.

Moreover, 5 kg of rice, hand sanitizer and face mask would be provided to all those who volunteer for the vaccination, he informed, while adding that people could avail the facility of the mobile vaccination bus at their homes if there are at least ten people to be vaccinated.

He further said that such service would continue till the constituency is fully vaccinated.

Susindro informed that a seven-member team including doctors and nurses will be utilised for operating the insulated vaccination bus and further urged the people to contact mobile number 9856159373 and 8974731952 if they wanted to inoculate.

The MLA further sought the attention of chief minister towards the need to upgrade health centre located at Heikru Makhong and also assured of inaugurating Khurai Lamlong Keithel within November and new building of Popular High School without delay.

Minister for Transport Vungzagin Valte, MP Rajya Sabha Leishemba Sanajaoba, Kakching A/C MLA Mayanglambam Rameshwar Singh and others were present during the function.
