Prog on EPF educates contributors

Any employer or employee is punishable with imprisonment of one year or fine or both under EPF & MP Act of 1952 if they fail to contribute to Employees' Provident Fund Organisation, said Regional PF Commissioner-I, SK Sangma.
She was speaking at a workshop organised by Employees' Provident Fund Organisation, North East Region at Classic Hotel today.
She said that it is mandatory for both the employer and the employee to contribute under the Act.
SK Sangma said that employers are not allowed to reduce wages to avoid payment of contribution on the actual wage.
The Act provides contribution of 12 per cent of their pay by the employees and matching 12 per cent along with other charges by the employer, she said and added that out of these 12 per cent contribution made by the employer, 8.33 per cent is diverted to the Pension Fund.
SK Sangma added that facilities for checking EPF balance, acquiring e-pass book trough link members portal and checking claim status are available on EPFO website, www.epfindia.gov.
in.
Anybody could use the payment icon provided through the link establishment search to view the names of employees for whom Provident Fund contributions are made, she said.
SK Sangma added that intimation could be sent to email, ro.guwahati.epf@epf india.gov.in or to the office at Maringland, New Checkon, Imphal.
More than 120 participants from schools, small and medium enterprises etc attended the workshop.
SK Sangma distributed the account statements of the employees of M/s HVS Construction, M/s Makoi Langjing Ching Mamang Brick Field and the employees and contractors of M/s NHPC, Loktak Project at the workshop.
