ISCA's exhibition on Sc & Tech innovation begins

India is the least investor in the field of science and technology, said Professor H.Nandakumar Sharma, vice-chancellor of Manipur University speaking at the two-day long exhibition on Innovation in Science and Technology for inclusive development which was inaigurated yesterday at Manipur University court room, vice-chancellor's secretariat, organized by the Indian Science Congress Association (ISCA), and ISCA Regional Science Congress for North East India 2013 .
The Professor maintained that even though the scope of investment in the field has tremendously increased in the 21 century, yet there are many rooms for improvement which can bring the nation at equals with the other developed nations of the world.
The government needs to invest more in the field of science and technology as this is a way to a nation's development in all spheres, he added.
India is currently ranked 66th in the field of Information Technology in the whole world.
As such, an increasing innovation and creative science will bring more economic prosperity and development which can fulfil the country's goal of becoming a developed nation by 2020.He further announced the completion of the under-construction guest-house at Manipur University by the coming year, 2014 .
About 400 people took part in the exhibition which was held as part of the programme.
Many skill and unique products were showcased at the exhibition.
Around 20 innovators also participated in the programme.
One prolific innovator Kshetrimayum Nicholson from Wangkhei Khuman Leikai of Imphal, who also took part in the exhibition, showcased his invention, an electric shock proof convertor, which is a machine that can resist electric current during electric shocks.
The device is an electric system which will be attached to the main electricity board of the house and converts all the electrical lines to shock free power lines.
National Innovation Foundation (NIF) had facilitated testing of his device at IIT Guwahati.
Nicholson is a national awardee at the Fifth Biennel Grassroots Technological Innovation and Traditional Knowledge, held in November 18-19 2009, organized by NIF, Ahmedabad.
Professor Ashok Sazena, editor-in-chief, Everyman's, a science journal of ISCA also attended the inaugural programme as the chief guest.
Local made soaps made by herbal means were also showcased as part of the exhibition.
