VDF calls off arms down strike

All Manipur VDF Welfare Association has conveyed today that it has decided to relax its' cease work strike/arms down strike for 10 days with effect from July 30 after considering the Government's request to withdraw its strike.
"Speaking to media persons at Manipur Press Club today, the association's spokesperson Md Riaz Khan informed that a meeting was convened yesterday at Police Headquarters where some representatives of the association hold talks with the Government represented by DGP, Additional DGP and some other high ranking police officers.
He went on to say that the Government representatives asked the association to withdraw its strike and them (Government) some time to consider the VDFs' demands.
Considering the Government request as well as the multiple issues prevailing in the State, the association has relaxed the cease work strike, he added.
He also condemned the police for allegedly attempting to disperse a peace rally which was held yesterday by the VDF personnel at Tiddim Line and informed that the rally was peaceful and was organised after taking due permission from DC and SP of Imphal West District.
He further clarified that there were no incidents of snatching of any arms or any equipments from any police personnel during yesterday's rally.
However, some VDF protesters recovered a 9 mm pistol and a radio set which felt down during a scuffle between the police personnel and the protesters.
The same have been handed over to the Manipur Police yesterday, he said.
