Imphal, June 29 2016: Mayang Imphal Bengoon and Mayang Imphal Konchak jointly constituted a lup (organisation) in a public meet- ing held recently to check unwanted incidents in the area.

State Education Minister Dr Kh Ratankumar in a press meet held at his quarters at Babupara today praised the people for the step.

Post the April 11 incident at Mayang Imphal, hostility between the two neighbouring villages had markedly increased.

The State Government imposed curfew for a long time in the area to bring back normalcy.

Village elders and youths have also been trying to clear the misunderstandings between the two groups.

But it is due to the delay in the process of providing compensations that complete normalcy has not been reached, Minister Dr Kh Ratankumar said.

A committee had assessed the loss of properties of the incident.

The report was then sent to the Home Department.

There are no provisions that promise compensation for private owned properties like houses and shops.

But a committee was constituted nevertheless and compensation for the losses were handed out, the Minister said.

Village elders and representatives of both the groups, in a meeting held at the Minister's residence at Mayang Imphal on Tuesday, came to an understanding and settled to avoid further violence in the area.

The Minister further advised the people against the practice of mob justice.

Any form of crime, he said, should be left for the authorities to handle as per the law of the land.

The people should avoid giving a communal colour to any incident, he added.

The newly constituted Mayang Imphal Bengoon and Konchak Lup has 30 executive members.

The lup will work to ensure communal harmony between the two groups.

In the meantime, the body Inao of Bengoon Yangbi that was lying unclaimed for over five days has been claimed by the family.
