Time to pledge not to spread virus: K Shyam

Imphal, May 29 2021: Langthabal MLA Karam Shyam has categorically stated that it is time to take a pledge neither to get infected by the Covid-19 virus from others nor spread the same to others if one contracts the disease.

He was interacting with the public during a mass vaccination programme for people above 45 years of age organised by CHC Kakwa in association with Rural Health Mission at Chajing Lai Haraobung community hall on Saturday.

It has been one and half years since the world is fighting the coronavirus pandemic and more than 35 lakh people have died of Covid-19.A pledge by each and every individual is the need of the hour to defeat the virus and all should pledge not to get the virus from anybody and not to spread the virus to others if one gets infected.

With this, the state can easily bring down the infection and death rate to a great extent within just 14 days, he said.

Vaccination drives are being conducted to save lives from the pandemic but some individuals are spreading false information and propaganda creating disturbance in the process.

The public should not believe in such unfounded claims.

Instead, they should get the vaccine while considering it as their contributions towards the effort containing the pandemic, he said while urging the educated youth to explain to elders in their families and localities on the benefits of getting the Covid vaccine.

So far, 2130 individuals have been administered vaccines at CHC Kakwa and 2900 at Samurou PHC.

Saturday's vaccination programme was organised especially for the elderly people, who cannot go far and wait in long queues, Shyam said and added that he is ready to organise similar programmes if there are any left outs and there is no attempt to politicise the matter from his side.

For Langthabal AC, a Community Home Isolation Centre (CHIC) has been set up at Standard Robarth Higher Secondary School and Covid positive persons, who do not have proper facility for home isolation, are staying there.

The inmates are being provided breakfast and two meals with four dishes each free of cost.

Several volunteers are offering their services in running the CHIC, he said while urging the people of his constituency to contact him or the CHIC volunteers if they are facing any hardships due to Covid-19 .
