Imphal, January 29 2015 : Based on a specific intelligence input regarding smuggling of huge quantity of gold, troops of 9 Assam Rifles of 26 Sector AR under the aegis of Hqs IGAR (S) established a vehicle check post at H Mongjang and apprehended an individual along with gold biscuits on January 27 .

The suspicious vehicle, a silver coloured Verna car travelling from Imphal to Moreh was stopped for checking and a thorough search of the vehicle led to recovery of eleven gold biscuits weighing 1.826 kg worth Rs 51,43,842 .

The apprehendee has been identified as Md Farooq Khan s/o (L) Md Iboton (46) of Ward No 5, Nepali Basti, Moreh.

The apprehendee along with the recovered item has been handed over to the Customs Department, Moreh, said a press release issued by PRO Hqs IGAR (S) .
