Rescued Meghalaya kids reunite with parents

Imphal, January 29 2013:
In all seven children from Meghalaya, who were rescued by State police from human traffickers in Thoubal district, have been handed over to their respective families by officials of State Social Welfare Department during a simple function held at the premises of the Department here today.
Among the seven rescued children, five of them are boys and two are girls.
All of them are minors in the age group of 6 to 13 years.
They were handed over to their parents for repatriation after WK Blah, chairperson, Child Welfare Committee, Meghalaya and the Child Welfare Committee, Thoubal signed an agreement.
The seven children were rescued by Thoubal police at a police check-post from a private vehicle in which they were being trafficked and heading for Moreh.
All seven of them were subsequently handed over to the custody of Child Welfare Committee, Thoubal.
The repatriation function was attended by Dy Dir of Social Welfare Surrender A Sishak, Probation Officer K Saroja Devi, CWO, N Binobala and representatives of CWC, Meghalaya, Child Welfare Committee, Thoubal and parents of the children.
