As part of Jai Kisan Jai Vigyan week, Directorate of Extension Education and Directorate of Research, Central Agricultural University (CAU), Imphal organised a one day awareness-cum-interaction programme at CAU campus on December 27 .
Dr CA Srinivasamurthy, Director of Research, CAU attended the programme as the chief guest while Dr M Laishram, Dean, College of Agriculture and Dr K Mamocha Singh, Registrar, CAU were the functional president and guest of honour.
Dr CA Srinivasamurthy emphasized how farmers can increase their income through scientific methods of farming.
He gave an example of how varieties of orchids are grown in Manipur but farmers are limited by lack of technology for mass production leading to limited revenue.

The programme was attended by over 100 farmers/growers and faculty members of College of Agriculture, Directorate of Extension Education and Directorate of Research, CAU, Imphal.
Dr K Mamocha also commented on the Prime Minister's vision of making India an organic country which he referred to as the second green revolution.
He also discussed on the issue of under-consumption of nutritious food in our daily life and the importance of maintaining a balanced diet.
Dr JM Laishram pointed out that Jai Kisan Jai Vigyan is celebrated from 23 December to 29 December to mark the birth anniversary of former Prime Ministers Atal Bihari Vajpayee and late Chaudhary Charan Singh.
He gave a brief background on the evolution of farming in Manipur post British rule in India.
The session was followed by farmers-experts interaction programme.
Dr V Pandey and Dr DS Yadav from Regional Centre of Organic Farming, Lamphelpat, Dr Th Robindro Singh, Deputy Director Research, Dr Y Bedajit Singh, Deputy Director Instruction, Dr M Norjit Singh, Assistant Professor, Animal Science, CoA and Dr Joseph, Scientist AICRP on forage crops, CAU, Imphal were the resource persons present at the interaction session.
