Border issue discussed with SGI officials, BRTF

The representatives of All Political Parties in the State along with officials of Surveyor General of India (SGI) and BRTF today discussed the current problem relating to Indo-Myanmar Border Fencing, the unsettled border pillars, and the subsequent problems faced by citizens living near the border area on the Manipur sector of the boundary.
After a thorough discussion, the 3-hour long meeting which was held in the Chief Minister's Secretariat with CM Ibobi in the chair adopted three resolutions.
Accordingly, it was decided to request the Government of India to settle the problem relating to nine unsettled border pillars along the Manipur sector of the Indo-Myanmar border immediately with the Myanmar authorities.
The meeting also resolved to request the Government of India to conduct a joint re-survey in consultation with the Myanmar authorities to settle the border BP 86 to 88, as some of the Indian villages of Maring tribe have fallen into the territory of Myanmar after the recent survey.
Furthermore, the meeting resolved to request the Government of India to maintain status quo in respect of border fencing and ensure that no Indian territory is compromised in the process of border fencing.
Consequent to the meeting, all political parties have also resolved that the State Government shall forward the resolutions adopted during today's meeting to the Prime Minister, Minister for External Affairs, and Minister for Home Affairs for early settlement of the border issues.
