Needs of building bye-laws stressed

As North-Eastern States lie in the seismic zone, these States need proper building bye-laws that will ensure safety and avoid loss of lives and property damages during natural calamities such as earthquake, said Er Kh Temba Singh, FIE, Chairman, The Institute of Engineers (India) Manipur State Centre.
He was speaking at the two days All India Workshop on Implication of Model Building Bye-Laws 2016 (with special reference to North-East Region) being held at the conference hall of City Convention Centre, Imphal today.
He also stressed the need to study the Model Building Bye-Laws 2016 to better plan out a proper bye-laws that fit the North-East region.
The workshop is being conducted across the country inviting suggestions and feedbacks from experts and engineers to be included in the Centre's Model Building Bye-Laws 2016, he said.
North-East States are prone to earthquake and as such the States including Manipur need a building bye-law that fit the region, he said.
Th Joykumar Singh, retired Chief Engineer PWD, Er Kh Temba Singh, Chairman IEI Manipur State Centre, Tapas Kumar Ghatak, former Director Environment Cell, Govt of West Bengal, N Shyamsundar, former Chairman JERC Manipur and Mizoram and A Roudrajit, organising secretary attended the inaugural ceremony of the workshop organised by IEI Manipur State Centre in association with Architectural Engineering Division Board, IEI Kolkata and Salai Holdings Pvt Ltd.
