Imphal, September 27 2020:
Chairman of the Village Council, Longmai Area, Adai Dangmei has urged all concerned to lend unconditional support for timely completion of Imphal-Kangchup-Tamenglong road/highway construction works.
In a statement, the Chairman stated that the public of Tamenglong and Longmai (Noney) districts were overjoyed when the Imphal-Kangchup-Tamenglong road/highway under ADB assisted SASEC Road Connectivity Investment Programme was launched officially on March 7, 2016 at Kangchup Chiru by the then Chief Minister Okram Ibobi.
He also lamented that this highway envisages the prospect of becoming a 4-lane International standard highway in due course of time, providing the shortest connecting highway between Guwahati and Imphal, reducing the distance by almost 100 km.
However, the public and CSOs have been painfully observing the 'dead slow' progress of the construction works by the executing agency (HCC-VCCL) since 2016, the chairman said, maintaining that the land required for the project was donated by 67 hillmen (landowners) of 12 villages in Noney and Tamenglong and 7 in (now) Kangpokpi.
He further claimed that a certain local issue is obstructing the ongoing construction works since over six months at 34 to 52 km section, which led to backing out of HCC-VCCL from Ejei River to Erang River.
The funding agency (ADB) has warned that the balance work beyond May 2020 will be left for the State Government to tide over which will be an impossible task to tackle.
It will lead to the failure of the project, Adai Dangmei continued and cautioned that the village council takes the matter seriously and responsibility will be fixed on whoever/whichever persons/villages responsible for colossal damage inflicted to public welfare.
