National workshop on wetlands conducted

Professor N Mohilal, former Dean, Students' Welfare, Manipur University has highlighted the need for a joint effort between the people and the policy makers in the attempt to safeguard vulnerable wetlands.
The former Dean made this statement during the inaugural ceremony of a national workshop on 'Protection and Conservation of Wetlands' jointly organised by the Zoology Department, Manipur University in association with Department of Environmental Sciences, Pole Star College and Biodiversity, Ecology and Environment Network, Manipur at the Court Hall of Manipur University.
The inaugural event was attended by Professor Naorem Lokendra, Vice Chancellor, MU; Professor Thingbaijam Binoy, Head of Department, Zoology, MU; Professor M Damayanti, HoD, Botany Department, MU; Professor N Mohilal, working president, BeeNet Manipur and Dr T Brajakumar, Joint Director, Directorate of Environment and Climate Change as the presidium members.
Professor N Mohilal stated that the workshop was organised to deliberate on the proper steps required to safeguard the wetlands in the State, as well as the nation.
Development is of the utmost importance, however, in ecologically vulnerable places such as wetlands, development must not come at the price of annihilation of wetlands, he said.
He also shared plans to organise an international workshop in this regard.
