Legal awareness programme held

Bpr/Kakching, August 27 2018: Bishnupur District Legal Services Authority in association with Legal Aid Clinic Ningthoukhong under the aegis ofManipur State Legal Services Authority organized a one-day Legal Awareness Programme yesterday at Ningthoukhong Awang Community Hall under Ningthoukhong Municipal Council Ward No 4, Bishnupur District.

Retd teacher Laishram Dwijamani Singh, Ningthoukhong High School attended the programme as chief guest, president Laishram Budhichandra Singh, Manipur Sahitya Parishad Bishnupur District as functional president while social worker Laishram Solendro Singh attended the programme as guest of honour.

Advocate Sudhir Meitei and Advocate Th Sushilkumar Singh spoke on the topic "Human Trafficking and Commercial Sexual Exploitation, Scheme 2015" and "Drug Abuse and Eradication of the Drug Menace, Scheme 2015" as resource persons at the gathering.

Advocate Sudhir Meitei said that Human Trafficking and Commercial Sexual Exploitation are interrelated and added that Human trafficker mainly target poor and underprivileged section of society and the displaced family affected by communal riots.

As Human trafficking business stand at third in terms of income generation, many people engaged in such illegal activities which are pegged at 53% for Commercial Sexual Exploitation, 40% for Force labour, 3% for Organ trafficking and the remaining for other activities.

Advocate Sushilkumar said that the rate of crime has been increased due to drug abuse and added that Drug abusers cannot take stand for themselves.

Therefore, we should spread awareness on the advantage and disadvantage of using drugs and drug abuse.

Meanwhile, under the aegis of Manipur State Legal Services Authority, District Legal Services Authority Chandel and Okeshwar Honeshwar Trust (OKHO Trust) Langmeidong jointly organized a one-day Legal Awareness programme at Beru Wangkhera Village Community Hall, Chandel District yesterday.

Beru Wangkhera Village chief Bs Sontong Analna attended the programme as chief guest, Executive Director Okho Trust Langmeidong Th Ngouba Singh (Star India National Awardee) as functional president while Beru Wangkhera Village secretary WL Dolngam Anal attended the programme as guest of honour.

Pastor Ngamthuna also attended the programme as special guest.

General secretary of Elangbam Tondonbi Singh Memorial Charitable Trust Hiyanglam, W Amusana Devi (National Awardee) explained the central meaning of conducting such awareness programme while advocate B Prem Sharma spoke on "Effective Implementation of Poverty Alleviation Scheme", "Food Security Act", "Consumers Act", "RTF and advocate S Thoithoi Meitei spoke on "Child Friendly Legal Services to Children and their Protection Scheme", "Crime against Women", "Domestic Violence Act", "POCSO Act" as resource persons.

Later advocate B Prem Sharma moderated an interaction programme.
