Shija hospital cancels operation following highway block

Imphal, July 27 2011:
Road links to Manipur remained cut off from the rest of the country for the second day on Wednesday following landslide at both the National Highways of the land locked state.
The landslide at Maram bazar 80 km north of here broke down the Imphal-Dimapur sector of the National Highway 2(formerly known as NH 39) in Senapati district in northern Manipur followed by another subsequent landslide near Barak,100km west of here on the Imphal-Slchar sector of the National Highway 37( formerly known as NH 53)in Tamenglong district crippled the vehicular movements.
Tourist buses have also ceased to ply due to the landslide.
More then 300 goods laden trucks were stranded at Maram for the second day even as the state works department machinaries are trying to rebuild the route by deploying a JCB.
The works department officials informed the locals that it will take two more days to rebuild the route .
"If the authority fails to do so within the stipulated time",a key functionary of Maram Students Union said.
"We'll be launching the agitation" .
Meanwhile the major operations at private run-Shija hospital has been cancelled on Wednesday due to unavailability of oxygen as the oxygen carrying trucks have stranded at the landslide site of the highways.A hospital official however confirmed that normal operation is likely to resume from Thursday again.
